Dharma Drum Mountain Global Sangha Assembly
Welcomes Guo-Huei Fashi as Sixth Abbot President

On June 26, 2018, the Dharma Drum Mountain Sangha Group held the Eighth Global Sangha Assembly at the Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhists and cordially invited the newly elected current Vice Abbot Guo-Huei Fashi to be their Sixth Abbot President. The inauguration ceremony will be held at 9:30am on September 2, 2018 at the Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhists.

Guo-Huei Fashi is 60-year-old monastic with an ordination of 31 years. He joined under Master Sheng Yen, the founder of Dharma Drum Mountain in 1985. He holds a Doctor of Letters Degree from Rissho University in Japan and is currently serving as Vice Abbot of Dharma Drum Mountain as well as the Chairman of the Department of Buddhist Studies at the Dharma Drum Institute of Liberal Arts in Taiwan. Fashi’s previous positions include the Superintendent of Dharma Drum Mountain Sangha Group and the President of Dharma Drum Mountain Sangha University. As a Dharma heir of Master Sheng Yen since 2005, Fashi has shown revered integrity, great upholding of pure precepts and grandeur spirit and compassion. He has proven himself to be a humble leader who has connected affinities with harmony and a diligent practitioner who strongly abides by Master Sheng Yen’s principle and objectives. He has received phenomenal respect amongst both monastics and laypeople.

Dharma Drum Mountain’s first Abbot was its founder Master Sheng Yen who resigned the position in September 2, 2006 to the Abbot President Guo-Dong who then succeeded the position for four terms, a total of 12 years. As he approaches the discharge of his duty Abbot President Guo-Dong expressed his deep appreciation for the overwhelming loyalty and support Dharma Drum Mountain has been receiving from the general public. He regards himself as a permanent volunteer who emanates the spirit of Master Sheng Yen and continues to practice, uphold and promote the Dharma.
